What kind of fish is dory?
We all loved the movie “Finding Nemo,” and you must remember the character “Dory” in the film. Yeah, I am talking about that bluefish. Well! You saw him in his animated version; now let’s know about the real dory that lives in the ocean.
Well if we focus on the fim “Dory” is a very distracted fish, and he suffers from short-term memory loss, that is he often forgets about things that just happened.
But if the character is inspired by a real fish species, does the real one also suffer from the same memory loss? No!. When the sequel of the movie was released in 2016 with the title changed from “Finding Nemo” to “Finding Dory”, we came to know much more about this character.
As Dory suffers from forgetting about things, he often tells Nemo about this. Dory tells Nemo that he usually forgets things at the very instant, and this thing is common in his family.
Though the character Dory is really cute and touching in the movie, the real Dory is different from the animated one. And as the animators were inspired by the real fish the features of the character are a little unfair.
Because the actual Dory, which is a Royal blue tang, does not suffer from memory loss. The ish spiece is much more capable than the character Dory.
The Royal blue tang has plenty of names as they are not always blue. They are also known as Surgeonfish, regal tang, and Royal blue tang. The scientific name of the Royal blue tang is “Paracanthurus hepatus.”

As we see in the movie, Dory has a very short memory and he forgets almost everything. However, there are no such studies in marine biology that support this notion. Any fish does not have anything like short-term memory. Besides the opposite concept prevails in the fish line, that is they have excellent memory.
Fish have the capacity to learn and memorize things for a very long period. It may be surprising to you but according to one experiment, carp fish are capable of associating a particular sound or noise with the food. Not only that it can memorize it but it is also capable of sustaining it for 5 months.
Few fish species are so astonishing that they can even process visual and optical images and they can learn how to give a certain response to them. However it needs continuous training and preparation which make them capable of learning about these images and specific kinds of responses these images demand. The memory of the Royal blue tang is relatively a grey area and there are not many studies available about it.
Though we know that fishes normally have an excellent memory, so the same goes for the Royal blue tang and its family members too

Blue fish in the movie “Finding Dory” is P. Hepatus, which is also known as Royal blue tang or Pacific blue tang. They are sometimes also known as hippo tangs. The name blue tang is somewhat deceiving because these fishes are not always blue.
The Blue tang has a special potential to become pale or white at night. The different kinds of pigments present in their skin and fins reflect light. The reflection of light makes them look paler and white.
It is sometimes also known as a royal blue tang or some may call them as hippo tang. The name may be decieving or confusing to some, because it is not necessary for the blue tang to be always blue.
When they are young or are newly born, they are typically yellow in colour. Blue tang is a herbivore and eats algae. They eat algae from the coral reefs and in that way they conserve them playing a very important part in the food chain.
Nemo and Marlin in the movie are inspired from real Clownfish. Just like they showed you in the movie the clownfish also live in the anemones in their real life as well.
On average the clownfish can be 3 to4 inches long and have rich orange pigmentation with white bands having black outline. There is a surprising fact about the clownfish and that is they cover themselves with their own slime. Why do they do that? They do this because they live in anemones which they sting. So their slime protects them from their sting.
Both clownfish and anemones share a symbiotic relationship, and they both cannot survive without each other. Clown fish eat algae from the anemones and in return their waste acts as food for the anemones. Anemones also provide shelter and protection to the clownfish.
Clownfish are local to the Great barrier reef.
